This came out in 2006, and I wanted to see it for a long time but didn't get around to it until 2023. (I watched the dubbed version, and most of the links I've provided for streaming sites are also to the dubbed version, though you could also find subbed versions if you look for them.) The movie is a sequel to a 1967 novel of the same name, which I haven't read.
The story follows a teenage girl named Makoto Konno, who has a bad day, which ends in her nearly dying. But she's saved by the fact that she unexpectedly travels back in time a few minutes. She tells her "Auntie Witch" (actually named Kazuko Yoshiyama, who was the protagonist of the original novel) about the incident, and Kazuko tells her about time leaping, an experience she had had when she was younger. Makoto begins using the ability to fix minor problems in her life, as well as more frivolous uses like extending the amount of time she can spend singing karaoke with her friends Chiaki Mamiya and Kousuke Tsuda (two boys with whom she mostly plays baseball or catch). There's also a girl who has a crush on Kousuke, and Makoto tries to get them together, despite Kousuke's initial disinterest in the girl. And when Chiaki asks Makoto out, she repeatedly goes back in time to try to stop him from asking her. But she eventually discovers a number tattooed on her arm, which decreases every time she time leaps, so she realizes she won't be able to do it indefinitely. This becomes a big problem when one of her friends is in danger. And... I don't want to spoil any more of the plot, but I will say there's a major twist I didn't see coming.
Well, I suppose I should give my impressions of the movie. It's definitely an interesting story with decent characters, and aside from the sci-fi aspect I thought of it as a sort of simple slice-of-life story. It was fun getting to know Makoto and her friends just a little bit, and seeing how Makoto used her ability to deal with various situations. And I liked the plot twist at the end, though it left me with questions about the future, both the future of the characters in the movie and the future of mankind in general. And, yeah, that's all I can think to say.
